Nature school with theme “Experience Together”

3 nights (location Kirjais Kursgård in Nagu, trip to small archipelago community and spending a night on an uninhabited island)

Day 1

  • Arrival and check in
  • Lunch
  • Introduction to the Nature School – information on safety, the location and facilities
  • Friendship games and cooperation practices, discussion on the results
  • Dinner
  • Meeting and information
  • Orienteering together
  • Leisure time for frisbee golf, badminton, visiting village shop etc.
  • Evening snack
  • Bedtime

Day 2

  • Breakfast
  • Departure to outer archipelago island Stenskär, where we with a local fisherman pull up fish nets. Walking the island nature trail, getting to know the island’s history and climbing the observation post with an amazing view.
  • By boat to the uninhabited island Gråsö, where we enjoy the fresh smoked fish and practice wilderness skills such as making a fire. Swimming in the sea, having a barbeque and raising the tent where we will spend the night.

Day 3

  • Making morning porridge using camping cookwear. Time for swimming, fishing etc.
  • By boat back to Kirjais
  • Lunch
  • Investigating the nearby nature and talking about the importance of nature’s diversity. Getting to know some of the species, and looking for edible or otherwise useful plants.
  • Dinner
  • Gettogether and information
  • Sauna and evening snack, talking about the desert island experience
  • Bedtime

Day 4

  • Breakfast
  • Packing  and cleaning
  • Playful ending of the Nature School, connecting back to what we have experienced
  • Lunch
  • The trip home begins

The price for this programme in 2019 is 279 € /student, 216 € /adult and includes VAT and accommodation and mentioned meals, but not the trip from home to the camp or back.

A Nature School week can look like this.

 

Monday

  • Starting with ferry from main land
  • Arrival and check-in
  • Introduction to the Nature School – Getting to know the surrounding nature through games and tasks. Safety and other rules.
  • Cooperation games
  • Dinner
  • Gettogether and info – Each evening we get together for half an hour to get information on the coming programme and answers to any questions.
  • Leisure time and evening snack
  • Bedtime and silence

Tuesday

  • Breakfast
  • Pre-historic workshop (time travel, stone age school, archaeologists of the future)
  • Lunch
  • Wilderness skills: To prepare an excursion
  • Dinner
  • Setting fish nets
  • Sauna
  • Evening snack
  • Bedtime and silence

Wednesday

  • Breakfast
  • Taking up the fish nets, handling the fish and learning about the anatomy of fish
  • Lunch
  • Food from the nature and using camping cookwear
  • Dinner
  • Theory about bats
  • Evening snack
  • Bat field trip
  • Bedtime and silence

Thursday

  • Breakfast
  • Marine biology research (investigating the water quality, studying the life in the sea bottom and insects of the beach, collecting for an aquarium)
  • Lunch
  • Wilderness skills: Orienteering in the nature
  • Dinner
  • Sauna
  • Camp fire, barbeque, bread on sticks

Friday

  • Breakfast
  • Packing
  • Playful ending of the Nature School, connecting back to what we have experienced
  • Lunch
  • The trip home begins

The price for this example in 2019 is 295 € /student, 225 € /adult and includes VAT, accommodation and the mentioned meals, but not the trips from home to the camp site or back.
